Its a hazardous
world out there for little ducklings.
Typical problems they
encounter include:
Dogs who chase
the mother away, or worse, kill her.
Cars that hit
mothers as they lead their ducklings across roads and
highways.
Hormonally charged
drakes (male mallards) who harass mother ducks and chase
them away from their broods into sewers and swimming
pools, which once the ducklings are in, they cant
get out of.
When this happens, it is best to catch the ducklings
and then put them in a spot, like a garage or shed where
their peeping attracts the mother. Then capture the
mother with the babies.
Consult with your local
wildlife rescue center on a place to release the family
that is more appropriate for ducks.
