Leaving a legacy

Incorporating IBRRC and its wildlife care efforts into your will or trust

M uch of the funding for IBRRC’s aquatic bird rehabilitation program comes from our supporters. We hope that our donors will include provisions in their wills and other estate planning documents as a means to provide additional support for IBRRC.  By including our wildlife rehabilitation organization in your will, you ensure the continuation of our wildlife rehabilitation and environmental awareness campaigns for generations to come.

Bequests

Bequests to IBRRC may take many forms. You may arrange for us to receive a specific dollar amount or specified assets, such as securities, real estate or tangible personal property. You may leave a “residuary” bequest, i.e., a bequest in which IBRRC receives the portion of your estate that remains once specific bequests are satisfied. Still other alternatives can be included to provide for property to pass to IBRRC after other beneficiaries have had use of the property for a specified period.

Tax Benefits

An outright bequest to IBRRC is not subject to federal or state estate or inheritance taxes and is deductible in calculating your taxable estate. There is no limit to that deduction. Please check with your tax consultant.

Gifts in Your Will

The most useful bequest is an unrestricted bequest for the general purposes of IBRRC. This permits us to use your gift wherever it is most needed at the time.
The following language is suggested for use in a will in making an unrestricted bequest: “I give (the amount of  $______) (all /or _____ percent of the residuary of my estate) to International Bird Rescue Research Center, 4369 Cordelia Road, Fairfield, California 94534, for its general purposes.”

Creating an estate plan that best suits your needs and wishes takes time.  We encourage you to discuss your options with a legal or tax advisor to determine what is best for you and your family.

IBRRC is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization, so your contribution is tax deductible.
